2015 Ford Explorer Wiper Blades & Replacement

Check front and rear wiper fitment, recognize worn blades, and replace them without damaging the windshield.

Before following this guide

Confirm the vehicle's engine, trim, drivetrain, market and equipment. The exact procedure may differ, even within the same model year.

2015 Ford Explorer wiper blade lengths

Passenger front22 inches (559 mm)Confirm connector and arm style
Rear window11 inches (279 mm)Rear attachment is model-specific

Lengths are listed by Rain-X for the 2015 Explorer; verify your actual blade attachment before ordering. A correct length with the wrong adapter will not fit.

Check the fitting before you buy

The 2015 Explorer has front windshield wipers and a rear window wiper. Blade length and connector style should be confirmed through a fitment catalogue for the exact 2015 Explorer, ideally by matching the blades currently installed. Universal clip kits are not all compatible. The owner’s manual explains removal, but its written procedure is not a parts catalogue.

When blades need replacing

Streaks after cleaning, chatter, skipping, split rubber and missed patches in the swept area indicate that a blade may be worn or contaminated. Ford advises replacing wiper blades at least once a year for best performance. UV exposure, winter ice and road grit can shorten that interval.

Cleaning first can help

Before buying replacements, wash the glass and carefully wipe the rubber edge using water or washer fluid and a soft cloth. Oil, wax, road film and grit can cause streaking even when the blade edge is sound. Avoid harsh solvents that can damage blade rubber.

Removing a blade safely

Move the blade arm away from the glass only as the manufacturer procedure allows. Ford describes squeezing the retaining tabs to release the blade from the arm and snapping the new one into place. Support the arm throughout the operation: a spring-loaded metal arm can crack the windshield if it falls.

Front and rear are not the same

Rear wiper arms and their connectors can differ from the front blades, so do not order three identical blades. Before forcing a clip, check that the replacement package lists 2015 Explorer rear fitment and follow its installation diagram.

Winter considerations

Free frozen blades from the glass before activating the wipers. Ford notes that ice has sharp edges that can damage the fine rubber edge. Clear accumulated snow and ice around the blade path and avoid running wipers over dry grit-covered glass.

Testing your work

Gently return each arm to the glass, wet the windshield with washer fluid and run the wipers at a safe setting. Confirm the blade locks into its connector, travels freely and does not strike trim or the opposite blade. If streaking remains, inspect the windshield surface and arm tension.

Fit is more than length

Blade adapters, arm shape and the rear-wiper attachment differ among vehicles. Confirm the actual 2015 Explorer fitment from a manufacturer catalogue and compare the replacement connector with the existing blade. An arm that snaps onto the windshield without its blade can damage the glass.

Fixing streaks before buying new blades

Clean the windshield and the rubber edge, then check for nicks, hardened rubber or uneven pressure. Washer-fluid quality and road film can create apparent wiper failure. If a new blade still skips, check the arm’s condition and the windshield surface rather than repeatedly installing replacements.

The rear blade uses a different attachment

The 2015 owner’s manual illustrates a rear-wiper cross-pin connection separate from the front blade release tabs. Do not force a front-style connector onto the rear arm. Support the arm carefully so it cannot snap back against the glass and confirm the replacement locks into place before testing.

Why replacement sizes should be cross-checked

Even common online size charts occasionally disagree about rear-blade fitment or connector hardware. Confirm against the installed arm, the removed blade or an up-to-date fitment catalogue for the 2015 Explorer. A correct length with the wrong connector is still the wrong part.

Before buying replacement blades

The front blades are unequal lengths. Compare driver and passenger positions against the fitment table, then check the adapter included with your specific blade brand. For the rear window, a universal 11-inch blade may not have the correct connector. Avoid forcing a mismatched part onto the arm; the resulting looseness can damage the glass or leave a large unwiped area.

If new blades still streak

Clean the windshield and rubber edges first. If wiping is uneven only at highway speeds, inspect arm spring pressure and the position of the blade on the glass. Chatter can also come from residue or a dry windshield, rather than defective new blades. Replace a bent arm or damaged connector rather than fitting another blade to the same faulty mounting.

Before working on your vehicle

Use the correct model-year manual and current service information. Stop if instructions or safety precautions are unclear, and use a qualified technician for work you cannot verify.
